Course Description: Ìdósù (“Initiation”) & The Necessity of the Priest and Priestess

Many people believe they can simply choose a deity, self-initiate, or bypass the traditional role of priests and priestesses. This course challenges those assumptions and explores the deeper meaning of initiation within African spiritual traditions.

Through the lens of Ọbàtálá, Òrìṣà worship, and African sacred cosmology, we will examine how initiation serves as a sacred rebirth and a continuation of a spiritual journey that began before birth. We will explore concepts such as Ìbàntẹ̀ (spiritual alignment), Ori, destiny, spirit possession, and the role of the Aworo as a living bridge between the divine and the community.

Students will discover why initiation is not simply about receiving sacred objects or titles, but about becoming a living shrine of divine character and presence.

In this course, you will learn:

• Why traditional initiation exists
• The necessity of priests and priestesses in African spirituality
• How destiny, Ori, and spiritual alignment are revealed
• The relationship between initiation, death, rebirth, and transformation
• How initiates become representatives of the deity
• The process of becoming a living shrine of Ọbàtálá
